Meet the Brand: La Bella Donna

Fun fact: while the term Bella Donna is Italian for "Beautiful Lady," it is also a plant...a member of the deadly nightshade.  Years and years ago, drops were made from the belladonna plant that were used by women to dilate their pupils.  Apparently, dilated pupils used to be considered attractive, so women would use the drops to look their best.  The only problem? Belladonna can cause minor visual distortions, inability to focus on near objects, and increased heart rate. Prolonged usage was reputed to cause blindness.

Fear not...belladonna is no longer used for cosmetic purposes and is not in anything from the brand I'm introducing you to today: La Bella Donna.  Just wanted to share my fun facts with you (I was a history major, so give me a break!) and remind you about how far we come with the use of potentially harmful beauty products.

Ok...back to the original point of this post: La Bella Donna Cosmetics!  I received a lovely box filled with products to try out.  La Bella Donna makes "mineral makeup that is truly good for your skin."  Their products include loose mineral foundation, liquid mineral foundation, highlighting creme colors (in moonlight and candlelight), bronzers, concealers, mineral eye shadows, and even mineral makeup for men(!). Their products are all natural, and their mission is to "bridge the gap between wellness and sophisticated beauty."  Their foundations contain non-chemical SPF20 and are free of dyes, oils, talc, alcohol and other chemicals.

My favorite product I've tried is their face compact called Vision of Mineral Lights Compact Colours ($45).  Here's how they describe this product: "Quads of compressed mineral bronzing colours give your skin an après sun-kissed glow. Naturale-created for those with a more fair complexion and may also be used as eyeshadows. Bronze- utilizes both the skin’s naturally occurring tanning undertones of gold and red. Both colours options are a beauty makeup kit must-have."

I love that this quad of color can be used in so many different ways: as a bronzer, an eyeshadow, etc. You could throw this compact in your bag and be set for the day...nice!

The La Bella Donna products I've tried have been of good quality and have been easy to use.  They're a bit spendy, so they're not for everyone.  If you have the budget for it, you may want to check this brand out!

Raspberries Aren't Just for Eating

Summer means long sunny days, hanging out on a warm, sandy beach, and eating bowls of ripe, sweet berries. Is there anything more yummy than diving into a bowl of cool, juicy red raspberries?  They're the best!  But berries aren't just for eating.  Raspberries inspire all sorts of beauty products...here are a few to try.

FOR THE LIPS
Korres Raspberry Antioxidant Lipgloss, $22.  This cooling, water-based formula contains the natural raspberry and pomegranate extracts to protect against free-radical damage and smooth lip lines for softer, more youthful-looking lips. It glides on with the creamy texture of a lip gloss and has the long-lasting, vibrant finish of a lipstick.

FOR THE SHOWER
Philosophy Raspberry Sorbet, $16. Are there any scents of bath/shower gel that Philosophy doesn't have?  Some of their offerings are great...others miss the boat.  I really like this one, their Raspberry Sorbet.  This lusciously-scented shampoo, bath, and shower gel is packed with moisturizing agents that smooth and condition the skin and hair, while gentle cleansing agents eliminate excess oils and impurities.

FOR YOUR SKIN
Arcona Basic Five Travel Kit for Problem Skin, $87.  Raspberries taste good and are good for you. The products in the Basic Five work synergistically and are scientifically designed to fulfill a distinct transformational function. Using the Basic Five as part of an advanced daily promises even fresher, more glowing skin and a more contoured, youthful appearance.

Product Preview: Regenerist Night Elixir

Now that I'm trying to get back on the beauty blogging bandwagon, I'm starting to give more consideration about my beauty products and skin care routine.  While I was off of the blogging habit, I just used the same old products without much thought. Now that I'm back to blogging, I'm trying new things.  Yay, me!

I'm in my mid-30s, and I'm finding that I'm in a weird position: I want products that will help me fight the aging battle, but I also need to consider annoying things like breakouts.  There are plenty of products on the market that do both, but lately I'm finding that I need to focus most on the anti-aging products.

I've seen plenty of ads for Olay's new Night Resurfacing Serum and I was intrigued; so intrigued that I picked it up at Costco on a recent outing (bonus: I had a coupon so I saved a good deal of cash!).

Olay promises that this product will, "Resurface skin while you sleep for tighter, smoother skin when you wake. Professional medium or deep chemical peels work quickly to resurface skin, but these fast-acting treatments can be harsh, causing severe flaking or prolonged redness. While not the same results, Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir works each night to help gently resurface skin while you sleep for tighter, smoother skin when you wake without the risk of harsh side effects associated with a professional chemical peel. When applied each night, the non-greasy, fast-absorbing formula with glycolic acid works over a normal sleep cycle to give you uninterrupted exfoliation while antioxidants and moisturizers continuously provide soothing hydration to tighten skin's surface. Light glycolic peel resurfaces skin nightly for tighter, smoother skin."

Sounds good to me!  User reviews of this product are overwhelmingly positive, and Olay usually has decent skin care products.

I've been using the elixir for about a week now.  After a few more weeks, I'll report back with my thoughts.

Have you tried this product yet?  What do you think?

Beauty Product of the Week: Belle De Jour White Lotus Mask

What is it? The Belle De Jour White Lotus Mask from Kenzo will "offer the skin special moments of pleasure and rest. 10 minute application, and the White Lotus alchemy, enriched for this mask, sets to work and quickly reinforces the daily benefits of Belle De Jour. The mask's rich, creamy texture is enhanced by the brush provided which stimulates and soothes the skin at application. Wraps the skin inside a bubble, restoring its optimal balance. Hydrates the skin and stimulates cellular regeneration. Significantly reduces levels of Cortisol in the skin."  Available online or at Sephora or Nordstrom's for $70.

What did you think?  Have you ever done yoga?  If so, you know at the end when you do savanasa and then, when you sit up how you feel completely at ease?  Like you're unstressed and completely recharged?  Yeah...that's how the White Lotus Mask made my skin feel.

The mask has a very different texture than most facial masks.  It is not thick; it doesn't feel like it's drying and caking and cracking on your face.  It brushes on very lightly...almost like a cream rather than a mask.  The scent is interesting and pleasant (lotus-y!), and the whole experience of using the mask is enjoyable.  Using a facial mask means forced relaxation, and you'll want to languish in that downtime with the White Lotus mask.

Everything about this product whispers luxury.  The box it comes in is lovely.  The booklet (with the instructions) is glossy and enticing.  The brush?  Yup, high quality...just like the mask.

Final verdict?  I love this product. Sure, I don't love, love the price, but that's life.  This mask made my skin feel like it had taken a deep, cleansing breath and was left feeling all zen and chill.  So, so nice!

Get to Know: Lierac

This year I've tried out several products from Lierac.  Lierac is a company from France that makes tons of skin care products.  Their stuff is available at CVS, and there's bound to be something for you to help your specific skin type or condition.  Their products are not cheap, but they are effective and well worth checking out.

Here are three of my favorites--I've been trying out samples of these products and they've been a welcomed addition to my skincare routine:
  • Microabrasion Exfoliating Smoothing Cream, $38: this product buffs away all the old, dead skin cells that make skin look blah.  It is only used once or twice a week, but man does it do a good job!  It makes my skin feel so much smoother and look more radiant.  It's like a wake-up call for tired out skin.
  • Coherence Nuit Age-Defense Firming Night Cream, $64: this product is designed for more mature skin, but now that I'm in my mid-30s, I figure it's time I get serious about battling the signs of aging.  (An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, right?)  This product helps to lift and firm up the face.  Applied nightly, it helps to repair the skin and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making skin more supple and moisturized.
  • Diopticreme Intense Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream, $34: Also designed for more mature skin, this product is a wrinkle fighter.  It helps to improve firmness and elasticity around the eye area, making sure the entire area is perfectly moisturized.  I like that it goes over the entire eye area, not just the undereye region that most products target.  This one seems like it will really tackle crow's feet (which I don't really have yet and hope not to get!).
Lierac products are very high quality and it's awesome that you can get them easily from CVS.  I've also tried out their Bust Lift product earlier in the year and liked it.  I appreciate that Lierac has products for body, face, sun protection, and men.  They really do seem to have something for everyone!

    Get to Know: Napoleon Perdis

Note: I'll start getting holiday posts soon enough...this week I'm going to introduce you to some brands!

Like you, I am always on the lookout for new beauty products and companies to try out.  Lately, I've been seeing fun looking products from Napoleon Perdis at my local Ulta and I was lucky enough to get some samples from the company to try out.

A little background first: Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics comes from Australia and the company bears the name of a self-taught makeup from Sydney who's come to LA to work his magic.  Napoleon believes that applying makeup should not be difficult--his goal is to demystify the process and to transform runway and red carpet looks to reality. Nice goal!  Napoleon further believes that makeup should enhance your natural look--not alter the real you.

The Napoleon Perdis line includes everything you need to get a full face of makeup.  Here are three of my faves:
    • Palette Patrol, $15: This is a great product to introduce yourself to NP...and I personally love a good palette!  This one includes three eyeshadows, three lipglosses, a bronzer, brush, and mini-applicator inside a mirrored box.  The shades are ideal for daytime and the compact packaging is great for us gals on the go!
    • Eyebrow Pencil, $18: A brow pencil is a beauty essential, but it's one that's easy to overlook.  I like the NP brow pencil because it has a great texture.  It's easy to use (a light touch is all you need) and it really fills in thin areas in a snap.  A finished brow makes a look that much better, and a good brow pencil like this can really do the trick!
    • Auto-Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer, $39: This is a bit pricey, but most good primers seem to put a dent in your wallet!  A little goes a long way, so a tube should last you a while.  This is a lightweight primer that glides on effortlessly.  It helps to even out both skin tone and surface, making foundation application easier and better.  This is one of NP's top selling products for a reason!
Napoleon Perdis products are available at Ulta, online, and at Target (where they have a nice line of NP body products I have yet to try out).

    Hit the Town with Nars

In my last post, I told you about Pure Matte Lipstick from Nars.  I just got more info from the good folks over at Nars on how to use their products to get some awesome looks.  Here's a fun celeb/fashion/beauty read for you to start your day:

To celebrate The Town’s debut in theaters with Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively, John Hamm and Ben Affleck, NARS highlights Rebecca’s looks from the film’s recent premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival. Created by Stephen Sollitto for NARS Cosmetics, below are details on what she wore!

Venice International Film Festival (September 4, 2010)
To complement her printed Prada dress during the day, Stephen kept the look pretty but simple. For her evening premiere, Stephen turned to Pure Matte Lipstick, taking her effortlessly from day to night and complementing her teal Vionnet dress.
Products used: Sheer Glow Foundation, Douceur Blush, Daphne Eyeshadow (on the outer corners), Coconut Grove Eyeshadow (“a brilliant brown” to line lids) and Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil lightly dabbed onto lips. For her evening look, Stephen added a mix of two shades to her lips: Vesuvio and Terre de Feu Pure Matte Lipstick.

Toronto International Film Festival (September 9, 2010).
Stephen kept her black and red Yves Saint Laurent look “modern and monochromatic for a vibe reminiscent of Studio 54.”
Products used: Sheer Glow Foundation, Douceur Blush, Melusine Duo Eyeshadow (NEW for Holiday 2010! For now, try Daphne Eyeshadow in the outer corners for definition), and Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara, and Tashkent Pure Matte Lipstick, “ideal for her sleek look.”
Reminder! To win a set of all 6 Pure Matte Lipstick shades, head to the Nars Facebook Page and take the Pure Matte-Inspired Dream Getaway Poll

Kat Von D Adora Eau de Parfum ($55) - This new fragrance from Kat Von D exudes a sensual and passionate aura with notes of lychee, boysenberry and thyme, the perfect mix for transitioning your scent to the new season.

Beauty Product of the Week: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

What is it? Boscia's Luminizing Black Mask is, "A groundbreaking, mineral-rich "peel-off" mask that delivers powerful detoxifying, purifying, and brightening effects. This innovative treatment dramatically improves skin clarity, radiance, and texture. The unique peel-off action offers gratifying physical exfoliation—as you peel, you actively remove dirt, toxins, and dead skin layers. Exceptional deep-cleansing and exfoliation draw out impurities, bacteria, and excess oil, refining and minimizing pores. Recover smooth, even skintone as pre-existing melanin levels diminish, fading the appearance of dark spots. Inflammation, roughness, lines, and wrinkles fade, revealing younger-looking skin.

Formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, etc.

Contains powerful antioxidants that help prevent free-radical damage and work to counter lines, wrinkles, dryness, and dullness.

This product delivers best results when applied generously. Smooth on to create a dark black base on your skin and wait until completely dry before removing. Keep the product at least one inch from eyes." Available at Sephora for $34.

What did you think? The first and most important thing to know about this mask is that you have to put a THICK layer on for it to work properly.  You also have to be careful NOT to get it in your hair or anywhere near your eyes.  When I've used this, it initially makes my eyes burn.  I think it's the witch hazel.  Anyway, this burning is not strong and doesn't last long.  It makes my skin tingle and feel clean.  It doesn't feel unpleasant as it dries--some masks flake, feel hot, or tighten up as they set.  This one doesn't. You just leave it on 20 minutes or so and then peel when it's ready.

Peeling off a mask is so much fun!  I love the way that feels, and though it can be tricky to get this mask going, peeling it off is satisfying.  As I said, it leaves my skin feeling smooth, evened out, and cleansed.  I do find this mask to be messy, and I don't like needing to put so much on.  Oh well!

The final verdict?  I'm on the fence with this one.  While I did find it messy, I also liked the feeling of pulling the mask off.  My skin felt good after, but I am not entirely sure if was more luminous or not!

Beauty Product of the Week: Activated Thermal Mud

What is it? Caviahue's Thermal Mud will help "diminish the signs of aging now! Caviahue Thermal Mud is one of the most unique skin care products and deep cleansing facial masks in the world. One of its main ingredients is the thermal waters that flow from the inside of a volcano and are charged with the right minerals and oxygenated properties that purify the skin, leaving it smoother, softer and beautiful. You will feel a natural lifting of your facial and neck skin when you use the thermal mud regularly and as instructed.
    • Helps diminish the signs of aging
    • Deeply cleans and purifies
    • Unclogs pores and allows your skin to breathe
    • Provides the balanced blend of minerals from Caviahue thermal water and Caviahue volcanic clay
    • Leaves the skin smoother, softer and absolutely beautiful"
    Available online for $74.90

What did you think? I haven't used a mud mask in ages, and spending almost $80 for a skin care product is a steep investment. This mud mask is so nice! It's very dark--almost gray/black--and has a surprisingly un-muddy, pleasant scent. It's easy to apply and you don't have to use tons to get a good layer of the stuff on your skin.

The mud mask comes with a sponge to help remove the product after a 15 minute wait. The sponge helps provide some exfoliation, and it left my face feeling very soft and very clean.

The final verdict? This mask is a treat to use! I know it's spendy, but you get a lot of product, so it will be sure to last. I've made this product part of my weekly skin care routine, and just love how refreshed it makes my skin feel.

    Sorry for the small image!

Beauty Product of the Week: Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash

What is it? Philosophy's Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash is "A mild, exfoliating facial cleanser. Designed to effectively cleanse the skin while providing resurfacing benefits. Gentle enough to use daily, this unique formula is sulfate-free and formulated with ingredients designed to replenish and protect the skin with topical antioxidants as it helps condition the skin and retain its moisture level." Available at department stores and Sephora for $25-$37.

    What did you think?
I love Philosophy's Purity Made Simple. It's the perfect face wash since it's both gentle and effective at removing dirt. I bought my mother a skincare kit from Philosophy recently, and the Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash was included for her to use in the morning. That piqued my interest.

I've been looking for something that I could use daily to gently exfoliate my skin. I didn't want anything that would be too harsh, so I knew Philosophy would be a safe bet. I keep this product in my shower and have been using it daily on my face, neck and chest. It is non-abrasive, but I can feel it working when I use it. It leave my skin feeling smooth and looking good.

The final verdict? I love this product and am certain that I'll become a regular user. This product is effective for all skin types (even sensitive skin) and it does an excellent job of smoothing skin while cleansing. It's a winner!

Product Preview: Super Fluid UV Defense

Ok--Memorial Day has come and gone, and summer is (un)officially here! (Though if you live in the Pacific NW, it feels more like fall than spring or summer!) With the warmer, sunnier days, it's really important to start getting your sun protection routine into place.

I recently picked up Kiehl's new Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ and I can't wait to really give it a try. Before I do (I'll be sure to give you a review soon!), I wanted to give you a preview of this product.

So...what is it? It's an ultra-lightweight, oil-free product that you put on after your moisturizer and before your makeup. It provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays. It's also waterproof and fragrance free, so it should be long lasting.

According to Kiehl's (and I tend to agree with this statement), 90% of skin aging comes from exposure to the sun, and from damage done by the sun's rays. Dark spots, discoloration, and premature aging are all attributed to unprotected sun exposure.

I like that this product can be applied in the morning and then forgotten about. Who wants to fuss with sunblock when they're wearing a full face of makeup? I also like that it's from Kiehl's since their products are usually very high-quality.

I'll let you know what I think of this soon. In the meantime, if you're interested in trying Super Fluid UV Defense, you can pick it up at your local Kiehl's or online for $32.

Beauty Product of the Week: Exfoliating Scrub

What is it? Clinique's Exfoliating Scrub is a "skin-clearing, water-based scrub for strong, oily skins. De-flakes, refines, softens tiny lines. Leaves skin refreshed." Available at Sephora and wherever Clinique products are sold for $18.

What did you think? Clinique's description of this product is insanely stark, but also accurate. While I don't have strong, oily skin, I've been using this product off and on for the past 20 years (really? How in the world did I get so old?!?) and have loved the results. Whenever I try a new facial exfoliator, I inevitably compare it to Clinique's old stand-by. And product after product, I like what I get from Clinique better.

My skin feels smooth and soft after using this scrub. It doesn't strip away any of the good oils in my skin, but instead sloughs away the dead cells that can dull my complexion. My skin looks rosier (in a good way!) and the texture feels so much better when I use this product.

The final verdict? In my world, Clinique's Exfoliating Scrub is a consistent, reliable, effective product. Also, for less than $20, this is very reasonably priced. Add this to your skin care routine (use it twice a week), and you'll be happy with the results. I know I am! My skin's tone and texture are much improved. I've loved this product forever, and it remains one of my top 10 beauty products of all time.

How To Look Good....When You Feel Like Crap!

I'm a relatively healthy person, but I do suffer from seasonal allergies (pollen is my arch enemy). To add to my sneezing and running eyes, I got a nasty cold last week. I spent too many days with a stuffed up nose, a raging headache, and the itchy-est, watery-est eyes ever. To put it short and sweet: I felt like crap.

But a cold/allergies can't keep a good woman down...oh no! So here we go...here are my quick tips for looking presentable when all you want to do is crawl under the covers with a box of aloe tissues shoved up your nose:
    1. After you take all your meds, be sure to exfoliate and then moisturize. The skin around my nose and lips tends to get scaly and gross when a cold/allergies strike. Exfoliate your lips by brushing them lightly with your toothbrush, and be sure to coat your irritated nasal area with moisturizer.
    2. Lay down a light foundation. When I'm not feeling great and I have to go out into the world, I don't like spend a lot of time on makeup. I've been swearing by Laura Geller's Barely There Tinted Moisturizer. It makes my skin feel good and provides a light amount of color and coverage.
    3. Add a little color. To give my skin a little lift, I swipe a bit of Pur Mineral's Mineral Glow over my cheeks and on my eyelids (instead of wearing eyeshadow).
    4. Groom the brows. Colds and allergies mean weepy eyes for me (so lovely), so spending a lot of time applying makeup that will run down my face doesn't make a lot of sense. I do, however, take a moment to make sure my brows are in place and fill in what I need to using Anastasia's Universal Brow Definer.
    5. Curl lashes and apply mascara--at your own peril! Even if I don't bust out the mascara, I'll at very least curl my lashes. Since mascara is my favorite beauty product, I tend to add a quick coat of whatever waterproof mascara I have in my kit. I just think it helps make my eyes look a little more open and a little less frightening.
    6. Keep your lips hydrated! A stuffy nose means mouth-breathing, and mouth-breathing means chapped lips. I've been using (and love!) LypSyl LypMoisturizer.
That's all I do. 6 steps to looking less awful when you're feeling like death warmed over. What do you do when you don't feel good? Do you even bother with makeup?

Beauty Product of the Week: Oxygen Infusion Masque

What is it? Sue Devitt's Microquatic Oxygen Infusion Masque is "a purifying masque that offers a dual result. Through self-foaming activation, oxygen molecules are released into pores then gently cleanse and remove impurities and environmental pollutants. Skin appears firmer, softer and healthy-looking. The unique infusion of Microquatic Complex hydrates while Blue Algae, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein and Chamomile Extract reduce redness and irritation, help control sebum production and soothe the skin." Available at drugstore.com and Ulta for $40.

What did you think? The first thing you notice about this product is its bright blue hue. And I must admit that I am not a big fan of the way this product looks. But looks don't really matter, because overall, I really like this Oxygen Infusion Masque.

The product feels good on my face. It foams up a bit and it feels like it's working hard to clean out my pores. And though it leaves my face feeling tingly and clean, I don't feel like it's harsh or that it stripped out too much of my face's good oils. I also really, really like the way this product smells--it's clean, light, and fresh, and I was thinking that the scent is so nice, Sue Devitt should bottle it and sell it as a perfume!

The final verdict? Though I was sent this product for free to try out, I would definitely buy it with my own money. It makes my skin feel clean, look good and feel good. What else could you want in a skin care product?

Budget Friendly and Ready for Spring

I don't care what the weather is doing or what the thermometer says: Spring is officially here. I, for one, am glad that winter is now just a memory. Now that we're in a new season, it's time to start thinking about new looks--new colors, new products...new everything!

If you're looking to update your makeup for the new season without breaking the bank, consider products from both mark (by Avon) and e.l.f. Here are a few of my faves from these budget-friendly brands:
Try these products from mark (available in mid-April online or through a mark rep):
    • Totally Balmed Tinted SPF 15 Lip Balm ($8): Available in four shades (a tawny cocoa, a plum, a light pink, and a pink/coral) these handy-dandy balms have a minty flavor and provide a hint of flattering color while moisturizing. A big bonus is that this also has SPF protection and includes antioxidant vitamins like A, C, and E. I am a huge fan of tinted balms, but the added SPF makes this lip balm stand out!
    • Glowdacious Illuminating Powder ($12): This pressed powder promises to brighten your skin, giving an instant glow no matter what time of the year. The compact is made up of three shades pressed into one easy to apply powder. Comes in light, medium, or dark to match any skin tone.
    • Rio Rhythms Fragrance Mist ($18): It's a good idea to lighten up your fragrance for the new season, and I like the fragrance profile of this one. It contains jasmine, coconut water, peony, gardenia and lilac, but also has undernotes of vanilla, wood and amber. It's pleasant and interesting. mark also has another scent called Rio Bikini that is a bit more fruity, but also nice.
And to really pinch your pennies (without sacrificing beauty!) try these from e.l.f. (available both online and at Target):
    • Mineral Lipstick ($5): Available in 16 shades, this lipstick hydrates your lips and provides a lasting color. The shades are subtle but pretty--perfect for the spring/summer. They contain vitamins like A and E to sooth and moisturize, and the product doesn't feel heavy like some lipsticks can.
    • Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder ($3): This duo will help you get a healthy glow without stepping out in the sun (or spending time in harmful tanning beds). The pink gives you a flush of color while the bronze side adds contouring and can be applied any place where the sun normally hits your face. And the price will keep you smiling!
    • Studio HD Powder ($6): I love loose powder, though I rarely use it. This is a lovely little formula that helps hide fine lines while leaving your face feeling soft and looking great. Unlike pressed powder, loose powders like this make your skin feel dusted, not coated. It will help cut down shine without gunking up your skin.

    Get Your Glam On!

The Oscars were a little over a week ago, but I still love seeing all the glamorous dresses and hair/makeup from Hollywood's big night. But glam isn't just for celebrities, and looking amazing doesn't have to cost you a fortune. Here are some hints to achieving the hottest looks at home, with the help of e.l.f. products. The tips come from Achelle Dunaway, Creative Director and Makeup Artist using their the wildly popular “everything’s a dollar” e.l.f. cosmetics line.

Bold, Colorful Lips – Hot pink, coral and dynamite red are ideal colors to sport with a sheer fairer-skinned face and are the equally perfect complement to a stunningly structured white gown – all the rage at the Emmys and SAG Awards. “I can see Kate Hudson, Diane Kruger and Carey Mulligan nailing this look,” says Dunaway.

PRODUCT PICKS: Mineral Lipstick in Cool Coral ($1), Studio Lip Stain in First Date ($3) or Studio Minty Lipgloss in New York City ($3)

Soft Smoky Eyes – “The smoky eye has been replaced with a refreshed, softer look,” says Dunaway. “Pretty plums and radiant browns will bring the right amount of balance for those who will wear their hair in long, Lauren Bacall-inspired styles.” Think Sandra Bullock and Penelope Cruz.

PRODUCT PICKS: e.l.f. Eyeshadow Duo in Berry Mix ($1) or e.l.f. Brightening Eye Shadow in Luxe ($1)

Golden Skin – Nothing screams red-carpet-gorgeous more than a soft, all-over Fergie-esque tan. “The key is keeping it only one or two shades deeper than actual skin-tone,” explains Dunaway. “Anyone wearing a daring, skin revealing dress needs a little warmth.”

    PRODUCT PICKS: Mineral Glow ($8)

Peachy Cheeks – Peach tones work perfectly on all ages and skin tones. It’s a subtle look, but enhances cheek-bone structure beautifully. “Peachy tones will work on Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep alike,” says Dunaway.

PRODUCT PICKS: Studio Blush in Peachy Keen ($3)

Radiant Hollywood Glow – There is nothing a shimmer highlighter can’t do. “All of the leading ladies will have soft shimmer effects enhancing their best facial and body parts.” This is a must-do.

PRODUCT PICKS: Studio Shimmer Palette ($3) or e.l.f. All Over Color Stick ($1)

All e.l.f. products are available online and can also be found at Target.
